Our Managing Directors

Tweedy, Browne employs a team-oriented approach in the management of its Funds. Investment decisions are made by a consensus of the available members of the Investment Committee, which consists of seven long serving investment professionals including Will Browne, Tom Shrager, John Spears, Bob Wyckoff, Roger De Bree, Frank Hawrylak and Jay Hill. Together they have spent 204 years cumulatively and 29 years on average at Tweedy, Browne.

The Firm's Management Committee consists of the Firm's four Managing Directors and is responsible for all business decisions made by the Firm. The Managing Directors have worked together for between 27 and 43 years. In its entire history Tweedy, Browne has had only eleven principals, four of whom are currently active. No Managing Director or former General Partner has ever left Tweedy, Browne to join another investment firm. While there are no current anticipated retirements, when the time comes, departing Managing Directors will be replaced by other long serving Tweedy, Browne employees.

Tweedy, Browne is owned by 16 employees (including all members of the Investment and Management Committees) and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Affiliated Managers Group (AMG). AMG provides the Firm with operational autonomy and a seamless mechanism for ownership transfer and succession.

As of June 30, 2018, the current Managing Directors and retired principals and their families, as well as employees of Tweedy, Browne had more than $1.2 billion in portfolios combined with or similar to client portfolios, including approximately $137.8 million in the Global Value Fund, $80.2 million in the Value Fund, $8.4 million in the Worldwide High Dividend Yield Value Fund, and $6.5 million in the Global Value Fund II -- Currency Unhedged.


Investment Committee


William H. Browne

William H. Browne* has been with Tweedy, Browne Company LLC, a registered investment adviser, since 1978 and is a member of the firm's Management Committee and Investment Committee. He is a Managing Director of Tweedy, Browne Company LLC, Vice President and Director of Tweedy, Browne Fund Inc., a mutual fund group comprised of the Tweedy, Browne Global Value Fund, the Tweedy, Browne Global Value Fund II — Currency Unhedged, the Tweedy, Browne Value Fund and Tweedy, Browne Worldwide High Dividend Yield Value Fund. Additionally, he is a member of the Executive Advisory Board of the Heilbrunn Center for Graham & Dodd Investing, and Trustee Emeritus of Colgate University. Mr. Browne holds the degrees of B.A. from Colgate University and M.B.A. from Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland.

Roger R. de Bree

Roger R. de Bree has worked for Tweedy, Browne since 2000. Mr. de Bree is a member of the firm's Investment Committee, as well as Treasurer of Tweedy, Browne Fund Inc. Before joining Tweedy, Browne he worked at ABN AMRO Bank and MeesPierson Inc. He has an undergraduate degree in business administration from Nijenrode, the Netherlands School of Business in Breukelen, the Netherlands as well as a M.B.A. from IESE, University of Navarre in Barcelona, Spain.

Frank H. Hawrylak, CFA

Frank H. Hawrylak, CFA joined the Investment Adviser in 1986. Mr. Hawrylak is a member of the firm's Investment Committee. Prior to joining the Investment Adviser, he worked in the investment department at Royal Insurance. Mr. Hawrylak received a B.S. from the University of Arizona and an M.B.A. from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland.

Jay Hill, CFA

Jay Hill, CFA has been associated with the Investment Adviser since 2003. Mr. Hill is a member of the firm's Investment Committee. Prior to joining the Investment Adviser, he held positions with Banc of America Securities LLC, Credit Lyonnais Securities (USA) Inc., and Providence Capital, Inc. He received a B.B.A. from Texas Tech University.

Thomas H. Shrager

Thomas H. Shrager* has been associated with the Investment Adviser since 1989 and is a Managing Director of Tweedy, Browne Company LLC. Mr. Shrager is a member of the firm's Investment Committee and Management Committee, and is the President and a Director of Tweedy, Browne Fund Inc. Previously he had worked in mergers and acquisitions at Bear Stearns, and as a consultant for Arthur D. Little. He received a B.A. and a Masters in International Affairs from Columbia University.

John D. Spears

John D. Spears* joined the Investment Adviser in 1974 and is a member of the firm's Management Committee and Investment Committee. He is a Managing Director of Tweedy, Browne Company LLC, and Vice President of Tweedy, Browne Fund Inc. Previously, he had been in the investment business with Berger, Kent Associates; Davic Associates; and Hornblower & Weeks-Hemphill, Noyes & Co. Mr. Spears studied at the Babson Institute of Business Administration, Drexel Institute of Technology and the University of Pennsylvania ‐ The Wharton School.

Robert Q. Wyckoff, Jr.

Robert Q. Wyckoff, Jr.* has been associated with the Investment Adviser since 1991 and is a Managing Director of Tweedy, Browne Company LLC. Mr. Wyckoff is a member of the firm’s Investment Committee and Management Committee and is the Chairman and Vice President of Tweedy, Browne Fund Inc. Prior to joining the Investment Adviser, he held positions with Bessemer Trust, C.J. Lawrence, J&W Seligman, and Stillrock Management. He received a B.A. from Washington & Lee University and a J.D. from the University of Florida School of Law.
